This year’s Toronto event started at Queen's Park, and "Imagine a Cure for Leukemia” fielded a small team of energetic walkers. All participants were given illuminated balloons to “light up the night” as they traveled the 4Km downtown route. Not only did this event appeal to adults, there were also many children, including little ones in strollers. During the walk, there was a wonderful sense of camaraderie and much optimism reflecting the widespread belief that leukemia and lymphoma can and will be cured. --- Everyone Scored Big Time at “Hockey Night with the Pros” One of the most unique Silent Auction prizes at our June 1st fundraiser was a game of “shinny” at the Pavilion, with former Maple Leafs hockey star Steve Thomas. The highest bidder was Mark Wexler, and he invited 20 friends to lace up their skates and come out for a once in a lifetime game with the pros. Steve made the event even more special by bringing along another pro, hockey great Darcy Tucker. The game took place on September 8, 2006, and everyone had a terrific time! For "Imagine a Cure", the event also provided an unexpected financial benefit. We are truly thankful to Mark Wexler and his friends who generously made additional donations to our cause. Please see the picture gallery for photos of the event. --- An Evening of Good Fun and Entertainment On June 1, approximately 600 people came together at the Capital Event Theatre for our first fundraising event. Billed as an “Evening of Good Fun and Entertainment”, guests mingled with friends over a drink or two, enjoyed complimentary hors d’oeuvres, and rocked to the sounds of Beatles music, courtesy of The Mockers. Many people participated in the silent auction which featured unique and excellent values. These ranged from one-of-a-kind paintings . . . to fitness club memberships . . . to laser eye surgery at the Bochner Eye Institute. The raffle draw was also a great hit, with three major grand prizes: a dazzling pair of diamond earrings from Steve Kruger Fine Jewelry . . . a wonderful Life Style Make Over Package “The Awakening” from the Soul Spa Studio. . . and a 40” plasma TV. Also, like all good parties everyone got to take home a special loot bag! Overall, the event was a tremendous success. We are truly grateful to our patron and corporate sponsors – particularly Corporate Sponsor Novartis - and to the many volunteers and generous prize donors who’s support was invaluable. For those who visited this sight prior to the event, you’ll recall that our fundraising goal was $50,000. Our Volunteer Committee is delighted to report that actual net proceeds were just over $80,000. This money has been turned over to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and will be put to work in research to help bring us closer to a cure! Thanks to everyone who participated. Please see the picture gallery for photos of the event.
